Hughes was founded almost a century ago in Lowestoft, Suffolk by electrical engineer Frank Hughes. Still a true family business, it is now the country's 4th largest specialist electrical retailer and the 2nd largest provider of home entertainment and kitchen appliance rentals. Hughes Smart division is dedicated to designing and installing smart technology while its commercial arm, Hughes Trade, is one of the country’s fastest growing business to business electrical suppliers.
“We’ve worked with Optoma for a long time and always received good service and high quality products we can rely on.”
Peter Harvey, Team Leader at Hughes Smart
“The impact from our users has been ‘Wow, that’s big!’. There’s no jostling to see a tiny screen anymore.”
Charmain Osborne, Assistant Manager for Ipswich County Library and Hub Manager
“Installation was very smooth. Weight was a consideration and we needed to double check the wall was strong enough to mount the display, but this was all fine. The library also purchased the optional mobile stand for the display to give them maximum flexibility for the future.”

“Our regular groups that use the facility have been so impressed. For example, the Hearing Care Centre commented that even when the room was packed, people could see and hear everything perfectly - even from right at the back.”
Charmain Osborne, Assistant Manager for Ipswich County Library and Hub Manager
“I think it looks fantastic. It’s a large room. No matter where you are sat you have a good view of the panel. The 4K resolution is great and there is more 4K content now available – so this resolution is essential when you are installing flat panels these days.”

The Challenge

Challenge

Ipswich County Library had transformed its meeting hire venue, The Hub, from a single huge space into three bright rooms that can be hired separately or used in its entirety. It needed presentation facilities that would give greater interactivity for users but also give the library flexibility for the future.

Located within the library in the center of the town, The Hub is regularly used by community groups, local businesses and the library service for training sessions.

Solution

The library drafted in specialist electrical supplier and installer, Hughes Smart, which recommended and installed the Optoma OP861RK+ Interactive Flat Panel Display (IFP).

Peter Harvey, Team Leader at Hughes Smart, said: “We recommended the Optoma IFP because it is so much more cutting edge than a standard projected display and will give the library more flexibility in this multi-function meeting space. You can interact with these displays in so many ways such as the voting functionality to take polls, screen sharing, annotating documents and much more.”

“We’ve worked with Optoma for a long time and always received good service and high quality products we can rely on. Installation was very smooth. Weight was a consideration and we needed to double check the wall was strong enough to mount the display, but this was all fine. The library also purchased the optional mobile stand for the display to give them maximum flexibility for the future.”

Results

The response from Hub users has been overwhelmingly positive. Charmain Osborne, Assistant Manager for Ipswich County Library and Hub Manager, explained: “Our regular groups that use the facility have been so impressed. For example, the Hearing Care Center commented that even when the room was packed, people could see and hear everything perfectly - even from right at the back. The impact from our users has been ‘Wow, that’s big!’. There’s no jostling to see a tiny screen anymore.”

She added: “It’s going to be really useful as the library holds a lot of training here and these sessions can now be more interactive rather than using the old fashioned flip chart. The wireless screen share functionality will be excellent for people coming in for meetings with their own laptops. It means we no longer have to worry about compatible cables. We could have a welcome screen for companies coming in or a rolling presentation during an event. And external companies can adapt it to their needs too since the screen is fairly intuitive and easy to use.“

Peter said: “I think it looks fantastic. It’s a large room. No matter where you sit you have a good view of the panel. The 4K resolution is great and there is more 4K content now available – so this resolution is essential when you are installing flat panels these days.

“This is going to give the library and users of The Hub so much more scope to make meetings, training sessions or events more dynamic and interactive.”
